Website monetizationMany bloggers and site owners try to earn money from their hardwork by placing ads, using affiliate links or by posting paid reviews and/or using other monetization strategies. Sure, you have the right to earn money from your blog or website, but excessive ad placement all over the place is distracting and may results your blog is perceived as spam by your visitors even you publish unique and usefull content.

If you are serious on creating content (in other words if you are not a content spammer),try to convert your random visitors to loyal ones and create long term relationships with them. This results more revenue in the long term. If you really want people to take your site seriously and see that you are serious in the business, keep the ads relevant to your target audience and try to keep them to a minimum as well.

Avoid placing ads on your homepage

In my oppinion, placing ads on your homepage is not a good idea. Let your visitors go deeper on your site. It is not only usefull for making a first time visitors a loyal one, but also for higher CTR and CPC for contextual ads. The ads on a specific page will be more relevant to the content and more interesting for your visitors. Additionaly, visitors will have an idea about your page and may return back. Most of the bloggers add social bookmarking links at the end of the posts but placing ads on their homepages. How can a user tweet about your post if he/she leaves just after landing on your homepage?

One last note about affiliate links and banners

Most of the time I see that people add affiliate links and banners on their sidebar and hoping people will like the landing page of that affiliate link and act on that offer. It would be a better Idea posting a detailed review about that offer that includes your affiliate link at the end or inside the review and placing a link to that review in your sidebar. You can use your power of persuasion to make people act on the offer, and make them stay on your page if they are not interested in that offer. More than that, having content links instead of ads on your sidebar will also have a positive effect.
